A package!

An owl stopped by this afternoon! From one Waverly Trimble and it was delivering a lovely package!! There are 3 Harry Potter sock patterns from Socktopia (whoo hoo!), and the Gryffindor Pride Sock pattern that I've been coveting, a lovely red bag, a Harry Potter calendar with some grand photos, a cool needle inventory set, some Trendsetter yarn and some Mei Mei bamboo needles (size 13), some yummy almond milk soap, and an assortment of excellent treats!! I LOVE that chai Waverly! All in all a treat to end the day well. I'll be thinking of you when I have a cuppa later! Thank you!

Who would you be and why?

Centy posed an interesting question today for those of us just dying for some homework! ;) What a bunch of overachievers we are!! She asked us which HP character we'd be and why. I like to think that I'd make a good Tonks. She questions authority, has a wicked sense of humor and sees beauty in the unusual. Remus was one of my book crushes and so we share that too! I love her bravery and that she doesn't ever bow to convention be it fashion or her core values. I strive to be true to myself without compromise in my personal life and it causes me a bit of uncomfortableness at times. I wish everyone could be as accepting as Tonks and I hope that people see me as accepting of them in all their unusual beauty. And I actually LIKE the name Nymphadora! ;)

St. Baldricks haircut!

I thought you guys would like to see my pic after my haircut! I am wearing one of my handknit hats today and frankly everyday!! I am a little chilly still as my body figures out how to regulate my temperature without my hair. :)

Still snuffling along here!

The flu has started to loosen it's grasp. Just in time for my St. Baldricks hair cut! I'll be shaving my locks tomorrow at 12:30pm EST. Please take a minute to think of all the people (muggles and otherwise) who have been touched by this disease. Hugs to you all and I hope my head won't be too cold! Looks like a perfect time to make myself a hat!

History of Magic essay homework

Due to their close proximity, Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Magic and the town of Hogsmeade have a special relationship. One of the perks of having a magical town right outside of the school is the search for any and all secret passageways to and from each location. So far we know of at least eight passage ways to and from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade. All but two of the passageways were built for reasons unknown but it's possible that some of them were built in or around 1612 to be used during the goblin rebellion which centered in Hogsmeade. At least two of them were used in the final battle to defeat Voldermort.

There is one passageway from Hogwarts to a shop in Knockturn Alley in London. For the sake of completeness we will describe it here. The passageway is a link between two vanishing cabinets, one in the school and the other in Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley. This link presumably worked until 1992 when Peeves (persuaded by Nearly Headless Nick) smashed the Hogwarts cabinet. The passage was reopened on or about December 1996 when Draco Malfoy fixed the cabinet. This passage is not shown on the Marauder's Map.

The first passageway from the school to Hogsmeade goes from Hogwarts third floor corridor to the Honeydukes cellar. To enter this passage from Hogwarts, one needs to tap on the statue of the one-eyed witch in the third floor corridor and say "Dissendium." It leads to a trap door in the floor of the Honeydukes cellar. The original Marauders found this passageway and marked it on the Marauders map. Fred and George, who also possessed this map, used it extensively when in attendance at Hogwarts and showed Harry how to use it.

The second passageway is from the Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack. It was built when Remus Lupin came to Hogwarts to allow him a place to go when he transformed every full moon. The tunnel is accessed by prodding a knot on the trunk of the Whomping Willow, and it leads to the basement of the Shrieking Shack.
The third passageway goes from the Room of Requirement to the Hog's Head Inn. This secret passage opened in 1998 to allow renegade Hogwarts students, Dumbledore's Army, who were in hiding to access food. Though the door is in plain sight in the Room of Requirement, the passageway can only be accessed from the Hog's Head through the portrait of Ariana Dumbledore on the second floor of the inn.

The fourth secret passageway is behind the mirror on the fourth floor and leads to a hallway in the back store rooms of Dervish and Banges. Fred and George used this passageway, which was unknown to Filch, extensively until it caved in winter 1992. This was a great way to check out the new magical equipment that was going on sale.
A fifth passage way entrance is located behind a statue of Gregory the Smarmy and leads to an opening behind an especially garish tapestry in Madame Puddifoot's tea shop. It's a favorite of trysting couples trying not to be seen arriving at the tea shop together.

A seventh passage way is located in the owlry on the Hogwarts grounds and leads to a underground passage that comes out right behind the Post Office of Hogsmeade. This passage was possibly used to smuggle out owls that needed to be seen going out as regular post instead of being sent from the grounds of Hogwarts.
The last two passage ways are lost to us. Only cursory mention of them is made in some of Filtch's papers as well as some cryptic notations in some of Tom Riddles notebooks.

One seems to have been in the "chamber" which we might assume means the Chamber of Secrets where the basilisk lived below Hogwarts. In such a maze of tunnels it is impossible to know where an entrance might be located. Though the entrance to the Chamber is still accessible through the bathroom on the second floor students are strongly encouraged not to attempt a search for this passage.

We only know about the last passageway as a full number of eight was mentioned in a History of Hogwarts written after the final battle. This last passageway is called "the eight" or sometimes "the final" but has never been confirmed or found by anyone in modern times.

a cypher!!

It took me a day or so but once I got "harry" and "ginny" and "kissed" it didn't take me too long!

Solved!
"Harry looked around; there was Ginny running towards him; she had a hard, blazing look in her face as she threw her arms around him. And without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her."

Honeydukes I love you!!

I was so bogged down in my assignments that I only had time to pop into Honeydukes on my quick visit to Hogsmeade. I desperately needed some Chocolate Frogs and Ice Mice to keep me going while I finished all my charts for Professor Victor. I am so wishing for a time turner lately!! I had to pass right by the Three Broomsticks even though I was longing for a butterbeer. Alas none for me as I headed back to school as quickly as I could.
But what a lovely surprise was waiting for me!! Bevin Rae (a generous Ravenclaw) had popped by while I was out to leave me some lovely things to keep my spirits up while I am studying. Some lovely teas and crafty things and a few cute drawings that might get embroidered on a pillow or quilt. I was so happy to have them! I have put my official Hogwarts bookmark right in my book and now I'm right back into my studies. Thanks for making my day so bright Bevin Rae!

I've been tagged!!

The lovely Dagmara tagged me on this cool meme and as she is a fellow house member I must do as she asks!!
Here's how it works:
1. Go to your pictures on your computer
2. Open the 6th folder
3. Choose the 6th picture
4. Show the picture on your blog and write something about it.
5. Invite 6 new people to this challenge.
6. Link to them and let them know they have been tagged.

So my picture is the character Eduardo from Cartoon Network's "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". It was a pretty cool commission. I worked on Ed and Cheese (another imaginary friend). I got the job from a random email that got sent out to a few yarn stores here around 6 or 7 weeks before Christmas. It was an oddly worded email that made it sound like the person wanted an entire sweater knit before Christmas. No one wanted to TRY that so I emailed the person for some clarification. It turned out that she needed two panels knit so that she could then attach them to a ready made sweater and then photoshop it to look like it was a homemade sweater. It was for a photo shoot for a calendar and this was going to be December. I had to chart them and then knit them in a little under 2 weeks. Things were further complicated by my having to be out of town for the entire time I was knitting them. Even further complicated because I was at my brother and sister-in-laws house while he was having radiation due to cancer and then everyone else in the family got the stomach flu. (At this point it's customary to say "EWWWWWWWW!")
SO, I got started on my first intarsia project. Yes folks I said yes to a commission with confidence and started right out having never done intarsia before or frankly ever creating my own chart. BUT luckily for this intrepid knitter it all got done and done well (if I do say so myself) and the resulting calendar looked really great! Very Molly Weasley sweater-like. And it made me feel like a "hip" knitter since now I get to say that I once worked for Cartoon Network in a knitting capacity!
I am tagging a few folks Siân, Wisteria, Lizzie, CentyB, Ophelia, and Pandora! Let's see your pictures ladies!

Arithmancy is kicking my butt...

I am stuck making all these amazingly detailed and precise charts for Professor Victor and it's killing all my free time. Luckily Ava is keeping me provided with my mail and I received a great package from my friend Siân. She made me these lovely mitts for keeping my hands warm while I'm writing these dang things. They are even in lovely Gryff red. I love them!
Well back to my homework. I have a history essay to write as well. Whew!

Let the Dueling Begin!!!

ETA again: Finally finished ONE and then started #2. Life is intervening and I WILL send these out tomorrow! I will!! ;)

ETA: OK, I ripped out my first try and now I'm recasting on for the mitts. I didn't like the finished product so I would rather be late and send lovely things than win and send something crappy. :)

I'm casting my knit spell as fast as I can but boy are my fingers tired!! I'll update with progress but I'm only on the first mitt still. I'm contemplating ripping but I'll go a little farther before I decide. :)
